summer 10 item wardrobe

Here is my summer 10 item wardrobe! I really enjoyed doing a spring 10 item wardrobe, and will continue doing them this year. If you would like to see the details of how to put a 10 item wardrobe together go and watch the Tedtalk that the Jennifer L Scott from the Daily Connoisseur did on the topic. She also has a youtube channel that will explain the details, and has written a book called Madam Chic. It is a great way to do a capsule wardrobe. I highly recommend trying it so that you can see how nice it is to have a smaller wardrobe.

I am using a lot of similar pieces to my spring one, except a lot of the outerwear and boots have been taken out. In the summer it gets to be in the 80s and 90s with high humidity here. So wearing any kind of outerwear is a no go. It is too hot. Any kind of sweatshirt or sweater I will use as an extra will be used inside with air conditioning.

1- Jean Shorts

I like wearing jean shorts during the summer instead of dresses. I am just a jeans a t shirt kind of girl, and this is the summer equivalent of that. These are a couple pairs that are longer in length that are modest enough, and these are great for working in the garden, and running around with the kids. If you have issues with finding longer shorts try to find some that have at least a 4 inch inseam. As someone who has larger hips I prefer a 4-6 inch inseam. Otherwise they are too short. The green sweatshirt in the first photo is actually one of my extras.

2- Another Pair of Jean Shorts

I am including two pairs of jean shorts in my main pieces, I will most likely be wearing these the majority of the summer. Something I also recommend about shorts is to size up one or two sizes with shorts. This makes them way more comfortable and longer in length.

3- Pair Of Skinny Jeans

Agolde skinny jeans

These are the skinny jeans I wore all spring, and will continue to wear throughout summer. They are stretchy and high waisted. Very comfortable jeans. I usually do wear jeans some of the summer. If you are short, and have short legs I highly recommend looking for cropped jeans. Usually cropped jeans are perfect for my inseam. I have about a 28 inch inseam, and for them to look cropped I need like a 26 inch inseam.

4- White T-Shirt

Cream cotton t shirt

This is my cotton white t-shirt that I wear a good bit. I picked it as piece for my spring 10 item wardrobe, and will continue to wear it all summer. It is great when it is hot outside, and very comfortable.

5- Brown T-shirt

green raw silk shirt

This is my brown raw silk tee that I wear constantly all year long. I wear it in all of the seasons, because it is definitely comfy. It is also very much my style, casual but also nicer than a plain t shirt.

6- Linen tunic

This is my linen tunic I have had for about 5 years. I wear it as a beach cover up, and a shirt. It is super comfy in the summer. I highly recommend linen for summer time. It is also in a tan color that goes with my color palette.

7-White Linen Top

White Linen Top

This is my white linen top. It is just as nice as the tunic just shorter. It is the better one to wear with shorts. I have had it about the same amount of time as the tunic above.

8- Tan T-shirt

summer outfit

This is a tan version of the brown t shirt I have. I wear the darker brown/green one so much that I got it in tan. I have had these about a year. They are great.

9-Grey Linen Tunic

Elizabeth Suzann Harper Tunic Grey Linen

This is the grey linen tunic I had in my spring 10 item wardrobe. It will definitely be coming into the summer ward. I wore this one a lot while pregnant, and all last summer. I have had it several years as well.

10-Denim Jeans

I have one pair of thicker denim that has holes in it for summer. The other pair of jeans I had in my spring 10 item wardrobe are too big. My weight has fluctuated a lot the last year, so jeans are definitely an issue for me to get right.

Other Extras

Other extras that I included, but did not photograph, are: 2 pairs of sweatpants for sleeping, 1 pair of linen shorts for sleeping, a couple loungewear and sleepwear t-shirts, a pair of black leggings for working out, a pair of black legging shorts for working out, 2 swimsuits, a backpack, a ball cap hat, and 2 cotton cardigans.

That is My Summer 10 Item Wardrobe

I hope that you got some inspiration for your own 10 item wardrobe. You definitely should try it, even if you put the rest of your clothes in the closet in storage for the time being. You will be amazed at how little you can get by with in your closet. Keep in mind I am a stay at home mom. So I can get away with more casual clothing the majority of the time. I like my clothes to be easy to garden in, and be outside with my kids. They have have to be comfortable as well. I will not reach for it or wear it if it is not.

Anyways I hope you have a great summer! Make sure you check out Jennifer L Scott’s videos and book for more tips!

A lot of these are old. Like years old, one of the brands is no longer is business. Some of the brands are notperfectlinen, madewell, and some I got secondhand because they were pricey like ozma or doen. I used to spend a lot on clothes prior to choosing to live more simply. It was a problem I had. Not something I would do anymore. I highly recommend looking some of these brands up on poshmark for better prices.
